Rev. Jonathan Maji
November Schedule
In 1966 Bishop Maji Jonathan arrived in the family of Rev.
and Mrs. Adamu Maji of north-central Nigeria. Due to poor medical facilities,
his premature birth was characterized with one health crisis after another that
nearly cost him his life. But by the grace of God he survived. He had four
brothers and four sisters, but three of those siblings died in childhood. The
impoverished background of the entire family forced everyone to depend on God
for basic necessities and survival in a country where demonic forces are rather
common. His family was of an agricultural background, but life
improved after his father had a short career in the military and then answered
God’s calling to enter the ministry.
Jonathan was fortunate to go to school and eventually earned
a Bachelor Degree in Theology and a Master Degree in Pastoral Theology. Today he
is married to Gloria and together they have five children: Reinhard, Paul,
Daniel, Magesty, and Jedidiah. In March of 1994 he was ordained by the
Independent Assemblies of Moore, Oklahoma at the Nigerian Convention. As he
continued to pastor a local congregation, in 1997 he founded the Victory Bible
Institute. Due to the growth of the Institute and the increased educational
needs of the church, the name was changed to the Institute of Biblical
Intelligence and Theological Studies. As
God blessed his work, in 2007 he was elevated to the position of bishop by the
Conference of Wesley Synod Canterbury, Kent, England. By the year 2014, Bishop
Maji and the Institute trained more than a thousand field works and licensed
another 500 pastors who minister across Nigeria and
beyond.
God’s
call on his life and on his faculty and students is to fulfill their part of the
Great Commission (Mt. 28:16-20) – to win the lost and teach men and women who
will be qualified to teach others (2 Tim. 2:2). Jonathan is not only a teacher
and administrator, but also an evangelist who has endured several beatings for
the gospel at the hands of radical Muslims. Today, Bishop
Maji and the Institute are associated with the Victory Christian Center in
Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the Saint Thomas a’Bekett Institute and University in
Canterbury, Kent, England.
